Default Republicans are the fiscal conservatives?

The debt was $5.7 trillion when President Bush took office; the bailout which passed by the Senate would raise the US debt to $11.315 trillion. I thought Republicans were all about fiscal conservatism?

Geez! Talk about it! It is good both presidential candidates are talking about lowering spending. We sure need it. The Iraq war is probably what is sucking up a chunk of that money. Who knows what other money-guzzlers are in our government!

Well lets see. Obama wants to increase spending by over a trillion dollars with all the programs he is promising. Here are the priciest plans that Obama has:

* A $65 billion-a-year health plan
* $15 billion in green energy spending
* $85 billion in tax cuts and credits
* A $25 billion-a-year increase in foreign aid
* $18 billion a year in education spending
* $3.5 billion for a national service plan

I wonder how he is going to do all this with the US already is so much debt?

Obama has said that he's already paid for everything in this economic agenda by ending the Iraq war, closing tax loopholes for corporations, putting a price on carbon pollution, and ending George Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans. Not sure if that'll be enough though to pay for all this.

I'm sure he'll raise taxes. There's no other way even if he did end the Iraq war.

Since his roots are in Africa (Kenya), how much of that 25B he wants in foreign aid will go to those thieves in the Government so they can be nice and fat while their people die of starvation?

Once again, the party of "personal responsibility" and "fiscal conservatism" has demonstrated through its actions that it is neither.

All of these plans are going to good causes, especially the green energy spending and foreign aid programs. Most likely he will have to increase taxes on us Americans just to pay for all of this AND raise the national debt quite a bit.

Then is it worth it? Aren't we in enough debt already?

Yes we are in a lot of debt, but the countries that have given us money depend on our economy to not fail, or else they will never see the return of their investment. Some issues like lessening our dependance on fossil fuels is very important, because this could greatly reduce the amount that we spend on buying oil from the middle east countries like Saudi Arabia.

With the amount of debt we have is the only way it can fail. Obama needs to cut spending like Bill Clinton did, its the only way.

I agree that Obama needs to cut spending, but he needs to still have things that matter to our economy or can guarantee that we would be spending less, like researching on greener energy.

Obama can cut spending, cut our debt and still have his programs by doing one thing...bringing our troops home. Its time we invest the money being wasted in Iraq at home.

He won't. He probably will have to raise taxes and put the US further in debt because that is already what the Iraq war is doing. If Obama wants to move that money to fund his new programs, he still will put us further into debt just like the war is.
