Default America Divided

Here is the election map of the 2008 election. As we all know Obama won, yet the map is a lot more Red then Blue. The Democrats own the the big cities in the big states that have the most electoral votes and that's how they win/won. With this said do you think its fair? Do you think it's fair that California which is a 'blue' state has 55 electoral votes when you need about 12 'red' states just to match it? States should not have so much more power then other ones.

Electoral Numbers per State

The reason they have more power is because they have more population.

I know that, but why is that fair to the rest of the country?

Because the rest of the country has less population density, thus get less representation.

So one State can tell the others what to do / how to live just because it has more people then any other state but not more then those other states combined? Its to much power for any State.

One state, in this case California, does not tell others what to do. They have their own government. Sure they have a greater influence in the House of Representatives, but they have the same in the Senate.

By having so many electoral votes they are telling other states what to do because they are about a 1/4 of the votes need to win the Presidency and the Policies they want and impose on the others.

I heard that Congress is considering making the elections based on popular vote - not through the electoral collage system. If this happens, then elections may be more fairer in the sense that now it is directly up to the people to decide who is elected as president.

Both systems are unfair. If the election goes only on popular then the coasts of America will decide the election.

Well when one state has so much power that they alone can almost elect a President then they are telling others what to do (The President's Polices).

All states are under the President's general policies, but each state can have its own rules and regulations over their own population. Perhaps democracy may not serve to the likings of all people under its influence, but the way democracy works is to target the bulk of the population's needs - not individual state's needs.

California is not telling the other states what to do. Sure they have massive influence on the Presidential elections, but they only influence the outcome on a whole, not individual states.
