Default Democracy Lost: Putin may return to presidency in 2009

Just goes to show that democracy is indeed dead in Russia. All the progress that was done has been lost thanks to an old KGB who is afraid to lose power. Why don't the Russian people take a stand? A dictator by any other name is still a dictator.

Quote:
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev could resign from his post in 2009 to pave the way for Vladimir Putin to return to the Kremlin, Vedomosti newspaper reported on Thursday, citing an unidentified source close to the Kremlin.

The Russian people don't care because their lives are better since Putin took over. The economy is better and then don't have to stand outside food lines like they had to when the USSR collapsed.

I agree Militant. Russia used to be a Super Power that fell to third world status while the west celebrated that it "won". The Russian people never forgot that and want Russian to reinsert itself as a world power. Putin is their best way there, even if it means losing personal freedoms.

I rather be free then live in a world power that can invade smaller defenseless neighbors. Different people, different cultures, different prioritizes I guess.

Russia was never a democracy. All the old commies who were at power in 80s are still there plus lots of oil money.

Putin was an old KGB who hates the fact Russia is no longer the USSR. Whoever thought that he was going to form a free country must have been smoking something.

Putin's not breaking the law by the way. He could come back as President in 2012, he just couldn't serve 3 consecutive terms as President. The people would still have to "vote" for him.
